A) Introduction

Hello, and thank you for purchasing The Wall by Elite by Design from Theme Forest. You are now in possession of one of the most flexible, customizable, and easy-to-use WordPress themes on the market.

With The Wall, you will be able to run your blog, portfolio, and business in a way that is professional, elegant, and aesthetically pleasing. With several awesome features – including the ability to create 120+ different layouts with just a few clicks – working on your next website will be a pleasant and enjoyable experience.

Let’s get started with The Wall.

B) Installation

Installing The Wall on your WordPress blog is quick and easy. If you do not currently have WordPress installed on your server, check out the 5 Minute WordPress Install here: WordPress Installation Guide

STEP ONE

Log into your WordPress administration panel, by default it will be http://yoursite.com/wp-admin

STEP TWO

In the left sidebar of your WordPress admin, click on the heading Appearance. Click the tab at the top of the page to ‘Install Themes’, like in the image below:

STEP THREE

At the top of the page will be an option to Upload. Select this option. You will be prompted to upload a .zip file of a WordPress theme. This .zip file is what you downloaded from Theme Forest.

Select the correct .zip file for The Wall and select Install Now. Once installed, activate the theme.

STEP FOUR

In the left sidebar of your WordPress Admin, go to Plugins > Add New. Search for “pagenavi.” Your results should look like this:

STEP FIVE

Install the plugin called WP Pagenavi. This is the plugin that allows users to navigate through older blog posts and portfolio entries. Activate the plugin.

C) Theme Options

The Wall has a very versatile and robust set of backend theme options. These options will allow you to customize colors, layout styles, categories, manage ads, your social profiles, and much more. The Wall theme options can be found by clicking on the heading “The Wall” on the left hand sidebar of your WordPress admin panel.

GENERAL OPTIONS

The General Options allows you to upload your own custom logo, favicon, add stats tracking codes, and manually input links to your social media sites.

  • Image Logo URL – Enter the URL for your own custom logo. Option to upload your own logo from your hard drive.
  • Custom Favicon URL – Enter the URL for your 16×16 pixel favicon. This is the image that appears in your browser’s URL bar while navigating your website.
  • Twitter Username – Enter your Twitter username to link the Twitter icon to your Twitter feed.
  • Facebook Page – Enter the URL for your Facebook page to link your website to your Facebook.
  • Digg URL – Enter your Digg URL to link your website to your Digg account.
  • Email Subscription URL – Enter a URL for an email subscription feed. If you would like this button to allow users to email you, simply enter ‘mailto:youremail@mail.com’
  • RSS/Feed Burner – Enter the URL for an RSS feed.
  • Stats Tracking – These boxes are great to quickly place Analytics, Mint, or other stat tracking codes.

LAYOUT OPTIONS

The Layout Options allow you to change how your content is organized. This area of the admin panel allows you to change your blog, portfolio, and footer layouts, as well as manage single posts and more.

  • Frontpage & Portfolio Slideshow Categories – Select the category that you would like the slider on the portfolio and front page to display.
  • Number of Items In The Slideshow – The number of items to be displayed in the portfolio and front page slider
  • Blog Slideshow Category – Select the category that you would like the slider on the blog page to display.
  • Number of Items In The Slideshow – The number of items to be displayed in the blog slider
  • Enable Slideshows – Select one or more areas where you would like the slider to be displayed.

Front Page

  • Footer – Choose the footer you would like displayed on the front page.
    • Default Footer – Displays recent posts, popular posts, social links, and site pages
    • Services: Allows you to manually input text and links to highlight your business or services
    • Latest Blog Posts: Displays your most recent blog posts in the footer
    • Latest Portfolio Items: Displays your most recent portfolio entries
  • Post Count – Input a number of latest blog posts or latest portfolio items to be displayed in the footer.

Blog Layout

  • Blog posts layout
    • Two columns – displays two columns of content with thumbnails
    • One column, left thumbnail – displays posts in one column with a large thumbnail on the left
    • One column, top thumbnail – displays posts in one column with a large thumbnail above the post content
    • One column, titles only – displays only blog posts titles, no thumbnails

Portfolio Layout

  • Portfolio gallery layout
    • Four columns – displays portfolio items in four columns with thumbnails, titles and excerpts
    • Two columns, left thumbnail – displays portfolio items in two columns with a small thumbnail on the left of the description and title
    • One column, large left thumbnail – displays portfolio items in one column with a large thumbnail on the left of the description and title
  • Portfolio Category – choose the category that will feature your portfolio items
  • Post count – choose how many items to display per page in the portfolio

Footer Layout

  • Footer – Choose the footer you would like displayed on the portfolio
    • Default Footer – Displays recent posts, popular posts, social links, and site pages
    • Services: Allows you to manually input text and links to highlight your business or services
    • Latest Blog Posts: Displays your most recent blog posts in the footer
    • Latest Portfolio Items: Displays your most recent portfolio entries

Services Footer

Manually input the text and destination links for the ‘Services Footer’ that is selectable for the frontpage and portfolio.

Navigation Builder

Manually select pages and categories that you would like excluded from the navigation menu and category menu. Command (Control) + Click to highlight multiple items.

Single Post Thumbnails

Select to remove thumbnails displayed above the content on single post pages

Auto Thumbnails

Check this box to stop The Wall from automatically creating thumbnails from your posts

Recent/Popular Post Count

Choose how many recent and popular blogs posts you would like displayed in the sidebar on blog pages

COLORS

The color section of The Wall’s theme options allows you to manually customize every color on the site, change the background color, upload a background image, or choose from 12 preset color schemes.

Preset Colors

Don’t feel like customizing everything yourself? Choose from 12 gorgeous preset color schemes to make color changing on the fly as simple as one click

AD MANAGER

Easily manage advertisements in the sidebar of your website. Simple enter a banner code or adsense block in the fields to make the ads display in the sidebar.

HOW TO CREATE A FRONT PAGE

  1. Create a new page

  2. On the right sidebar, select ‘Front Page’ from the ‘Template’ dropdown menu

  3. Click ‘Publish’

  4. In the left sidebar, go to Settings > Reading

  5. Change the ‘Front page displays’ to ‘A static page.’ Select the page you just created with the ‘Front Page’ template.

HOW TO CREATE A PORTFOLIO PAGE

  1. Create a new page

  2. On the right sidebar, select ‘Portfolio’ from the ‘Template’ dropdown menu

  3. Click ‘Publish’

  4. In the left sidebar, go to Posts > Categories

  5. Create a category titled ‘Portfolio’

  6. Go to The Wall’s theme options. Select the ‘Layout Tab.’
    Under ‘Portfolio Category,’ choose the Portfolio category that was created in step 5. Select your layout style, footer style, and number of portfolio items to display per page.

  7. Optional: If you don’t want your portfolio category to show up either in the navigation menu or category menu, scoll to the bottom of the ‘Layout’ section in the theme options. Select either the portfolio page or category to exclude it.
